"Heading Out"
13" x 19"

This painting was also juried in. Just an afterthought since I have done a series of x-country skiers. I always liked this one, so pulled it out from under the bed. The dust bunnies lamented.
Just another pleasant surprise from the jury

The Ottawa Watercolour Society put out a call to artists for their 62nd Exhibition and Sale to be held at the beautiful new Shenkman Center. I'm happy to say that all 3 of my paintings were accepted. This is one of them. It was chosen for a juror's award.

'Taking a Break"
20" x 28"

This has long been a favorite of mine and I have attempted to get a final "good" painting. This was my fifth try in 5 years.
I guess the persistence paid off. The painting was awarded both the President's Award and the Morton Baslaw Award.
Morton Baslaw is Ottawa's most well known wc artist. He has taught thousands of artists the in's and outs of watercolours, both at the Ottawa School of Art and evening courses. He was also the founder of the Ottawa Watercolour Society many years ago.
This is the 2nd time I have been given this pleasure. I'm delighted to say the least.

"Cross Country"

20" x 28"

At an art festival in Manotick a few months back, a painting I had sold was admired by one of  my previous purchasers. I was asked if I would do something along the same lines....but bigger. "Surprise me" she said.

"Rainy Remembrances"
The War Memorial, Ottawa

13" x 19"
Available

As part of the Tulip Festival held annually in Ottawa, the Downtown Rideau B.I.A. put out a "call to artists" to have 40 artists painting on Rideau St. which is a main thorough fare thru' Ottawa.
The program was called "Pleine air" and it meant being on the street from 11.30 am to 3.30 pm.with 2 weekends of three days each and the final weekend with painting on Friday and and exhibition and sale on the final Saturday.
I'm happy to report that I won 1st prize of $1000.00 with the above painting.
I must admit that pleine air is not my way of working, but I think the idea of the artist's on the street is a good one. I'm sure this will grow into a much anticipated yearly event.

"On The Rideau"
 20" x 28" Available

Quite a while ago, 6 mute swans were given to the City of Ottawa. They had a hard time staying, since the winter quarters they were given was not the greatest. That problem has been overcome and they spend the summer on the Rideau River, albeit with nicely clipped wings.

"Crossing Sussex"
Private Collection

Always interesting to see how one thing leads to another somewhat along the lines of one painting idea leading to a series. The previous painting of the Chateau Laurier below led me to find a painting I had done several years ago. The hotel is in the background. When giving the title to the folks who receive and  hang paintings at the Ottawa Little Theatre, I casually mentioned that it was a painting of PM Stephen Harper getting hit by a bus. Didn't crack a smile.....musta been a Tory, eh?
